Saturday Nacht Fever

July 3, 2008

Henry Smithon aka Riton is back with a new project Eine Kleine Nacht Musik on Modular, inspired by the cosmic disco and krautock sounds coming out of Germany in the seventies. Recorded at Smithson’s home in Camden and in a studio in West London, Eine Kleine Nacht Musik features a orchestra of guitars, sitars, strings, glockenspiels, xylophones and most importantly a massed bank of throbbing dirty great big analogue syntesizers.

A single ‘La Serenissima/ Phantasie’ is out now with the album due to drop on the 14th of July. In the meantime Henry has been kind enough to put together one of these new fangled c90-less ‘mixtapes’ that seem to be all the rage these days, tracklist and download below.

And whilst we’re on the subject if this at all wets your whistle then I’d suggest you also check out the wonderful many legged space rock machine that is They Came From The Stars I Saw Them who have a new album out now as well.

Win Fred Deakin’s ‘Nu Balearica’ Mix CD

June 27, 2008

If you’re looking for the perfect album for this Summer then look no further than ‘Nu Balearica‘, the new 2CD mix from Lemon Jelly’s Fred Deakin. With tracks from the likes of Quiet Village, Studio, Lindstrom, Todd Terje and Aeroplane, it’s a mix that could equally soundtrack a sunny day tending the BBQ or a hot sweaty night of dancing in a basement.

Luckily for you we’re offering you the chance to do both. We have a copy of the mix to give away, just simply answer this easy question and email us the answer by Wednesday the 2nd of July to enter the draw.

Q. The three main Balearic islands are Ibiza, Mallorca and…?

And if you dont win that you can always join us for FREE next Thursday (the 3rd) down at The Last Days of Decadence on Shoreditch High Street where Fred and Reverso 68’s Pete Herbert will be joining us on the decks for the album’s official launch party. Cant say fairer than that really.

Seaside Sounds From The Long Seventies

June 26, 2008

Via the magic of the interweb LA producer Cole Medina dropped us a line about his latest re-edit. Taking a much needed razor blade to the toothsome Bee-Gees, he’s turned their ‘Love You Inside Out’ into a slow burning spaced out epic, perfect for both the start and end of the night and destined to get a good airing at my next few gigs.

Bursting onto the scene back in 2003, with his ‘Buffalo Bill’ edit on his own House Arrest label, Cole’s productions have been finding their way into all the right record boxes (Harvey, Rub’N'Tug, the DFA crew etc) ever since, whilst House Arrest has gone on to release 6 highly sought after twelves.

If you have a poke round your local vinyl emporium you might be lucky enough to pick up the last House Arrest 12″ ‘Yacht Rock Edits’ by Sleazy McQueen, alternatively hold tight for Cole’s next release ‘Red Hot’ on Prins Thomas’ Internasjonal label.

Midnight In Europe

June 26, 2008

Strange things are afoot at the circle K. Ed Banger, the Parisian blog-house heavyweight has got their swerve on and caught us off-guard signing Londoner Midnight Mike under his Mickey Moonlight name. What the fluoro kids will make of it all I have no idea but personally it’s cheered me right up.

A taster for the LP, ‘Interplanetary Music‘ should be available in one of those iconic So-Me record sleeves very soon, till then feast your eyes on this visual treat.
